Remote Learning

My son’s school district has started school this week. Monday was day one of remote learning, to get everyone back in the swing of things since the kids haven’t been on a school schedule since Spring Break.

As with all things once you go live…the stuff has hit the fan this week. Monday there were so many kids trying to log into the online platforms that it seems like we broke the systems for a time. It’s hard to volume test these systems without the actual volume kids logging in.

I gained a new appreciation for teachers when I saw them pivot and deal with a major shift of the way they do things. We did summer school from home, to help close any educational gaps that may have formed. We hit the ground running with First Grade on Monday.

SO FAR, this week I haven’t hit any snags, but for the time being the teachers are just making sure the students can navigate the apps, so we are moving slow and not doing a full load of work each day, just yet. Our teachers have been great and super responsive when it comes to answering questions.

Don’t get me wrong we have had a few melt downs. But I have learned that there’s a reason those breaks are built into their school day. It’s easy to get overwhelmed. I have learned that breaks do both of us good.

For the time being we are going keep doing remote learning after this initial 4 weeks of remote learning. I want to see what happens once they get all of these kiddos back together, I’m afraid there’s going to be an uptick in cases. Only time can tell though, I am certainly not wanting to risk us getting sick or someone we love get sick.

Tell me, are your kids going to school in person, or are you doing remote learning like us.
